Troubleshooting Guide

The following checks will assist in the correction of most problems which you may encounter with your system. Before going through the check
list below, first check the following points.
• The power cord must be connected firmly.
• The speaker connection must also be firm.
Should any problem persist after you have made these checks, consult your nearest Sony dealer.

Radio Reception

Symptom !

Cause (and Remedy)

The TUNED indicator flickers.

• Adjust the antenna.

The STEREO indicator flickers.

• Adjust the antenna.

Severe hum or noise.

• Adjust the antenna.
• The signal strength is too weak. Connect the external antenna.

• Connect the ground wire.

The stereo FM program cannot be received in stereo.

. Press STEREO/MUTING to display “STEREO MUTING” (See page

32.)

Cassette Deck Operation

Symptom

Cause (and Remedy]

Recording cannot be made.

• No cassette in the cassette holder.

• The tab is removed from the cassette. (See page 40.)

• The tape is wound completely.

Tape does not move even when the 1> or <3 button is activated.

• The cassette deck is in the pause mode.

Recording or playback cannot be made or there is a decrease in
sound level.

• Dirty head (See page 80.)

• Magnetic build-up on the record/playback head. (See page 80.)

Excessive wow or flutter, or sound drop-out.

• Contamination of the capstans of pinch rollers. (See page 80.)

Insufficient erasure.

• Magnetic build-up on the erase head. (See page 80.)

Increase of noise or erase of high frequencies.

• Magnetic build-up on the erase head. (See page 80.)
