Enabling the Universal Replicator for Mainframe Option(s)

To operate the Universal Replicator for Mainframe software, a computer for Remote Web Console
is required. For further information on Remote Web Console operations, see the HP
XP24000/XP20000 Remote Web Console User's Guide
, or contact your HP support representative.

Using Multiple Primary and Secondary Storage Systems

System configurations of up to four primary storage systems and up to four secondary storage
systems are allowed for Universal Replicator for Mainframe operations. Universal Replicator for
Mainframe can copy data from more than one primary storage system to more than one secondary
storage system, while maintaining consistency in data update sequence. Even when a failure occurs
in a large computer system consisting of more than one storage system, you can continue your
business tasks by using data in secondary storage systems.

The following figure illustrates an example of using Universal Replicator for Mainframe in a system
configuration of three primary storage systems and three secondary storage systems.

When primary hosts write data to primary data volumes, the hosts add a time stamp to the data.
Secondary storage systems check the time stamps and then restore data to data volumes in
chronological order (older data is restored earlier), so that the data update sequence is maintained.
For details about the time-stamping function, see

“Host I/O Time Stamp” (page 24)

.

The term arbitration processing refers to the maintaining of data update sequence through the
execution of the journal restore function based on time stamps. When there is more than one
