differential data between the primary and secondary data volumes may be stored in the master
journal group.
Particularly in the following cases, the delta resync operation is not performed because the necessary
journal data does not exist:

When, after creating the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair, the primary data volume
in the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for the delta resync operation is updated.
However, Universal Replicator for Mainframe primary data volumes that are also used as
TrueCopy for Mainframe Synchronous primary data volumes are not updated in the primary
site.

When the volumes in the primary site are updated after splitting the TrueCopy for Mainframe
Synchronous pair.

When the secondary data volume is updated after splitting the Universal Replicator for
Mainframe pair.

As a result of the update of the primary data volume (after splitting the Universal Replicator
for Mainframe pair), when the capacity of the journal data exceeds 70% of the journal volume
in the TrueCopy for Mainframe Synchronous secondary site.

When the primary data volume in the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for the delta
resync operation is updated and the resulting capacity of the journal data exceeds 70% of
the journal volume in the primary site of the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for the
delta resync operation.

When no volumes (including volumes after failover or failback) in the primary site are updated
after creating the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for the delta resync operation.

When the delta resync operation is performed, when the Universal Replicator for Mainframe
pair and the TrueCopy for Mainframe pair are in Duplex status, and within five minutes after
a volume in the primary site is updated after the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for
the delta resync operation is created.

If the delta resync operation to support remote command devices is performed, you can execute
the delta resync operation from directly after the primary site updated.

The following are also regarded as the case of creating the Universal Replicator for Mainframe
pair for the delta resync operation.

When the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair status changes to Hold after the delta
resync operation.

When you re-create the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for the delta resync
operation, when recovering the primary site and so on.

By specifying an option, you can copy all the data in the primary volume to the secondary volume
and avoid the error when only a part of the differential data between primary and secondary data
volumes is stored in the journal volume. For detailed information about the option, see

“Changing

Options for a Journal Group” (page 167)

Configuring Delta Resync Operation Environment to Support Remote Command Devices

To configure the delta resync operation environment to support remote command devices, perform
following tasks after creating a Universal Replicator for Mainframe pair for delta resync operation:
1.

Configure paths and ports to connect the primary site and the secondary site.

2.

Create command devices by using LUN Manager.

3.

Create remote command devices by using XP External Storage.

4.

Assign mirrors to remote command devices.
