Configure Port Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU)

The MTU setting controls IP fragmentation of packets transmitted through the
specified port. Packet whose size is greater than the MTU value are
fragmented to fit into the MTU size limit.

To set a maximum transmission unit value for a port, follow the steps below:

1

Type “M” on the Router Configuration menu (Figure 4.59) to select
Configure Port Max Transmission Unit. The IAD displays the port table for
this interface and prompts you to select a port.

2

Type the port number and press Enter. The IAD displays the current
configuration and prompts you to change it.

3

Type the new MTU value (100-1500) and press Enter. (When set at 1500, IP
fragmentation is disabled). The IAD saves the changes.

4

Continue with other configuration tasks, or press Escape to return to the
Router Configuration menu.

For further information, refer to Frame Relay Applications Notes on page D-1.

connection in a network that cannot successfully perform Path MTU Discovery.

To set a TCP MSS Adjustment for a port, follow the steps below.

1

Type “K” on the Router Configuration menu (Figure 4.59) to select
Configure Port TCP MSS Adjustment. The IAD displays the port table for
this interface and prompts you to select a port.

2

Type the port number and press Enter. The IAD displays the current
configuration and prompts you to change it.

3

Type the new MSS Adjustment value or 0 to disable MSS Adjustment. The
IAD saves the changes.

4

Continue with other configuration tasks, or press Escape to return to the
Router Configuration menu.
