The value parameter speocifies the amount of time before a nexthop down is replaced by an active
nexthop. Possible values are10-200 seconds.

Use the no form of the command to disable the validation timer.

Displaying the routes waiting for the next hop ARP to resolve

Use the following command to display which routes are waiting for the nexthop ARP to be resolved.

Displaying ARP

When the next hop entry is a static route, enter the following command to display the route and the
timer value.

BigIron RX# show arp 10.43.14.1

Total number of ARP entries: 1

IP Address MAC Address Type Age Port Status

Configuring forwarding parameters

The following configurable parameters control the forwarding behavior of the device:

Time-To-Live (TTL) threshold

Forwarding of directed broadcasts

Forwarding of source-routed packets

Ones-based and zero-based broadcasts

All these parameters are global and thus affect all IP interfaces configured on the device.

To configure these parameters, use the procedures in the following sections.

BigIron RX# show ip static route
