Cluster MAC entry types

The following types of MAC entries are defined for the cluster:

Cluster Local MAC (CL) - MAC entries that are learned locally from the VLANs that belong to the
cluster VLAN range and on CEPs.

MAC entries are synchronized to the cluster peer and are subject to aging. A local MDB is not
created for the MAC entries and these entries are associated with a cluster RBridge ID.

Cluster Remote MAC (CR) - MAC entries that are learned through the MDUP message from the
peer (CL on the peer).

MAC entries are always programmed on ICL ports and do not age. The entries are deleted from
the database only when the entries are deleted in the peer. A remote MDB entry is created for
the MAC entries with a cost of 1, and these entries are associated with the peer RBridge ID.

Cluster Client Local MAC (CCL) - MAC entries that are learned on the VLANs that belong to the
cluster VLAN range and on CCEP ports.

MAC entries are synchronized to the cluster peer and are subject to aging. A local MDB entry is
created for the MAC entries with a cost of 0, and these entries are associated with the client
and cluster RBridge IDs.

Cluster Client Remote MAC (CCR) - MAC entries that are learned through the MDUP message
from the peer (CCL on the peer).

The MAC entries are always programmed on the corresponding CCEP and do not age. The
entries are deleted from the database only when the entries are deleted in the peer. A remote
MDB entry is created for the MAC entries with the cost of 1, and these entries are associated
with the client and peer RBridge IDs.

MAC entry aging

The following rules are defined for the MAC entry aging:

The MAC entries learned locally age out of the FDB and MDB, and trigger the resolution
algorithm to program the next best entry.

The remote MAC entries learned through MDUP messages are dynamic MAC entries with the
exception that they never age out of the FDB and MDB. They can only be removed by MDUP
delete messages from the peer.

Flushing MAC entries

The following rules are defined for flushing the MAC entries:

If the CEP is down, the MAC entries are flushed and individual entry MAC deletion messages
are sent to the peer.

If the local CCEP is down, the MAC entries are flushed locally and individual MAC entry deletion
messages are sent to the peer.

If the clear mac command is entered, the MDBs and FDB are rebuilt.

If the clear mac vlan command is entered, the local MDB and FDB are rebuilt for that VLAN.
