5.3

Replacing the SAS Front Panel Board

The SAS Front Panel (SFP) board provides an interface to the controls at the front of

the system, the power interconnect for the server board, the USB2 and Serial B

interface, and the front-panel LEDs. It also houses the optional hardware RAID 5

components and optional SMART Embedded USB Solid-State Drive (eUSB SSD).

To replace the SFP board, the following components must be removed:

• The chassis top cover
• All cable connections on the SFP board and selected connections from other board

components, such as optional 4xGbE LAN card cables connected to the front panel

• Add-in Card Riser Assembly
• PCI fan assembly
• CPU fan assembly and air duct

Caution:

Before replacing any of the boards on the NSC2U Server, you must first take the

server out of service, turn off all peripheral devices connected to the system, turn off

the system by pressing the power button, and unplug the power cord(s) from the

system or wall outlet.

When handling the SFP board, observe the normal safety and ESD precautions. (See

Appendix A, “Safety Information”

for more information.)
