3.2.2 9100-310 10/100BASE-TX Module
This module is a plug-in, which contains the 10/100BASE-TX interface, see Figure 3-5.
Caution: To protect the Ethernet port from an intrabuilding lightening surge, use a properly grounded
shielded cable.
This interface provides 10 and 100Mbps operation, using UTP cables. The interface components are the
following:
• RJ-45 shielded connector
• Port LEDs
• Tx Transmit (Green)
• Lnk Link (Green)
• Col Collision (Yellow)
• Fdx Half/Full-Duplex (Green)
• Rx Receive (Green)
• Aut Auto negotiation enabled (Green)
• Par Partition/Disable (Red)
• 100 100Mbps indication (Green)
• Connectors: Edge connector to the main board unit
• Internal DIP switch for selecting:
• AUT Auto negotiation on/off (auto negotiation, per IEEE 802.3u specifications, will
automatically setup for the highest common operating mode between the 9135 or 9140
port and its link partner. Highest: 100/FDX, 100/HDX, 10/FDX, 10/HDX: Lowest)
• FDX Half/full-duplex (ON = Full-duplex, OFF = Half-duplex; overridden if auto negotiation
is ON).
• 100 10/100Mbps (ON = 100, OFF = 10; overridden if auto negotiation is ON)
• UTP Crossover Switch
The 10/100BASE TX interface modules can be configured to connect to either standard DTE devices, or to
repeaters, which usually cross their XMT and RCV pairs internally, without the need for special crossover
cables.
To connect the 10/100BASE TX interface modules to a standard DTE device with a standard straight-
through cable, set the Normal/Crossover switch, which is internally crossed, to the X position, switch
button OUT, shown in Figure 3-5.
To connect the 10/100BASE TX interface modules port marked with an X, as with most repeaters with a
standard straight-through cable, set the Normal/Crossover switch to the N position, switch button N, shown
in Figure 3-5.
