5.2.1.1 IP Settings
This screen lists all the IP settings and configurations for your management module. See Figure 5-8. You
will note that the local MAC address is shown above the numbered list. To enter or modify any of the
selections, enter the number at the "Choose Number" prompt and follow the instructions, which will be
subsequently prompted.

Step 1 Local IP Address: this will be the address of your 9135 or 9140. To set the IP address for the

SNMP Agent, select '1' from the IP Settings Menu. A new screen will appear prompting you to
enter the IP address for the SNMP Agent. The Internet Protocol (IP) address class defines how the
IP is split between the network ID (identifies the network) and the host ID (identifies the host on
that network). This class depends on the first octet of the address.

First Octet of Agent IP Address

Default Subnet Mask

Class A 1-126

255.0.0.0

Class B * 128-191

255.255.0.0

Class C 192-233

255.255.255.0

* Address 127 is reserved for loopback.

Step 2 Gateway IP Address: the Agent looks at the destination or SNMP Manager or Host IP address to

see if the destination is on a different network (Subnet mask is used to determine the real network
destination). If the network manager is located on a different network, the IP datagram will be
routed to the Default Gateway. To enter the Default Gateway IP Address, select '2,' then 'Enter'.

Step 3

Subnet Mask

: the subnet mask must have the network portion bits set to 1. The host portion may

have bits set to 1 to define a subnetwork. The subnet mask defines a mask that is used to
determine which portion of an IP address is the network ID.

Aging Time: the value governs how long a MAC address stays in the forwarding database before
it is aged out.

Enable Download: select FTP and/or TFTP for firmware upgrades or disable the download
function.
