5.2.2.5 Spanning Tree Reports

The Spanning Tree Report screen depicts the Spanning Tree Parameters of the Bridge Network. See Figure
5-23 for details. The following selections are available:

Designated Root: the Root Bridge in the network Spanning Tree.

Topology Change: the number of occurrences of a network Topology Change.

Root Cost: the Cost of the path to the Root from the Bridge. When the Bridge is the Root this
parameter has a value of zero.

Root Port: the Root Port on the Root Bridge.

Max Age (in sec): the timeout value for information transmitted by the Root. If the Root goes off-
line, the Bridge needs to timeout the stored configuration information and start again. This parameter
can be set and will be used if the Bridge becomes the Root of the Spanning Tree.

Hello Time (sec): the time interval between the generation of BPDUs by the Root. The parameters
can be set so that it will be used if the bridge become the Root of the Spanning Tree.

Hold Time (sec): minimum time period elapsing between the transmission of Configuration BPDUs
through a given Bridge Port. No more than two Configuration BPDUs shall be transmitted in any Hold
Time period.

Forward Delay (sec): 1) the time spent in the listening State while moving from the Blocking State to
the Learning State. 2) the time spent in the Learning State while moving from the listening State to the
Forwarding State. 3) The value used for aging time of dynamic entries in the Filtering Database while
the Topology Change flag is set in protocol messages received from the Root.

Note: You may note that the parameters designated on the Spanning Tree Report may differ from the
actual parameters that have been entered. This is due to minor system adjustments from settings in
network dynamics.
