Redundancy (Backup) Mode

It is important that Backup mode be enabled on both units prior to connecting cables. Once Redundancy
mode has been enabled, attach the optical cable that connects the two 9140s to Port 2 of both units. The
Lnk LED should light on both Port 2 optical interfaces, indicating you have continuity on the optical path.
Repeat the above procedure and attach the cable that will connect the 9140 fallback path between Port 1 on
both units. In addition to the Lnk LED, which will light on both Port 1 optical interfaces, indicating
continuity on the fallback optical path, the partition (Par) LED will light red indicating Backup Mode.
"Redundant links" now exist between the units and if there is a problem such as a cable cut, bad splice, low
light condition or failed transmitter, the units will sense a low light condition and switch to the fallback
link. Refer to Figure 5-
