ShowBathtub1

Bool

Consider a histogram of jitter (see ShowRjBUjHisto and ShowTIEHisto). It should be clear that the tail
on the left causes eye closure from the right crossing of the eye, and the tail on the right causes eye
closure from the left crossing of the eye. Now, if we added up all the bins in the histogram from
fartherst outlier back to the center, we would get a Cumulative Distribution Function (see
ShowLogCDF). The Bathtub curve shows the left side CDF against the right side of the grid, and the
right side CDF against the left side of the grid. The horizontal scaling of the grid is one UI across.
The vertical scaling is probability in factors of 100 per division. So the top line is probability 1; one
division down is 1E-2, and the bottom of the grid is 1e-16. Therefore, the bathbub curve shows how
much eye closure must be tolerated for any bit error rate. The width between the curves on each side,
at 6 divisions down from the top, is the remaining eye opening for 1E-12 probability of error - that is, if
the receiver can tolerate that small an eye opening, then 1E-12 BER should be acheivable.

Description

ShowLogCDF

Bool

If we add up all the bins in a histogram from fartherst outlier back to the center, we would get a
Cumulative Distribution Function for both sides. Taking the log of the values of the CDF makes it easy
to see the tails of the distributions. The CDF shown when ShowLogCDF is set true is calculated from
the RjBUj histogram - DDj has been removed. (The histogram with all the jitter, including DDj, is the
TIE histogram, see ShowTIEHisto.)
