Special tools

Before you replace the components, ensure you have the following equipment:

Phillips screwdriver #2, with a 3.5-inch blade

3/16-inch slot screwdriver

antistatic wrist grounding strap

Preparing the system for maintenance

If the system is still operating, perform the procedure

To shut down the system

on page 170.

After the system shuts down, perform the procedure

To disconnect the cables

on page 176.

Removing the main unit

The method you use to remove the main unit depends on how the unit is mounted. Use one of the
following procedures to remove the BCM50 main unit:

To remove a rack-mounted main unit

on page 177

To remove a wall-mounted main unit

on page 177

To remove a desktop mounted main unit

on page 177

Opening the main unit case

This procedure is based on the assumption that you intend to perform maintenance activities. Do
not operate the main unit with the cover removed.

Caution: You must wear an antistatic grounding strap at all times when
handling electronic components. Failure to do so can result in damage to the
equipment.
