Can I use my existing YSI and/or SonTek field cables when communicating with the
ADV6600?
No. The ADV6600 is a hybrid instrument and requires a hybrid cable. You must purchase new field
cables for the ADV6600 from YSI. These cables are issued in three standard lengths (3 m, 10 m,
and 20 m) or are available in greater lengths on request. The ADV6600 interface cable ends in an
MS-8 connector so that all YSI cable adapters are compatible and can be used.
How will I communicate with the ADV6600 to set it up for field studies and download data?
Communicating with the ADV6600 is done through our ADVantage 6600 Windows-based software
which is provided as a standard item with each ADV6600 sonde. The ADVantage 6600 program
allows you to set up the instrument, run diagnostics, and use the powerful data analysis capability
similar to that found in our EcoWatch for Windows software.
Can I interact with the ADV6600 using a YSI 650 handheld display?
No. At release, you will be required to interface with the ADV6600 via a laptop or desktop
computer running Windows 98 or later. There are presently no plans to allow the users to interface
to the ADV6600 using a YSI 650. However, it is likely that software will be available in the future
that will allow an interface with handheld, Pocket PC devices. Users should also be aware of the
present availability of field rugged, watertight laptop PCs such as the Panasonic ToughBook
TM that
are ideal for field interface to the ADV6600.
Will the ADV6600 output data for my water quality sensors and the ADV sensor separately?
The ADV6600 is designed to concurrently collect data from both the water quality and the ADV
sensors. Although the system can be configured to collect data from only one of these two sensor
packages, the memory within the ADV6600 is large enough to log data from both the water quality
and ADV sensors for most studies. Note that, if the user wants to view data from only one of the
sensor packages, the ADVantage 6600 program can be used to extract selected sensor data from the
reports, plots, and export format.
