5-1.3. Deploying on a Simple Tether


The ADV6600 can also be deployed simply by tethering it to a bridge or support using a simple
chain or rope as shown in the picture below.



Clearly, the ADV6600 will probably twist on its vertical axis during a “suspension” deployment
such as shown above. To counter this problem, the ADV6600 is equipped with an internal compass
that automatically compensates for most of the rotation of the sonde during deployments. However,
as noted above, significant and sharp changes in rotation can cause temporary inaccuracies in the
measurement of the water velocity. For fast water tethered deployments, the twisting of the sonde
can be minimized by using a rudder which is easily attached to the 6650 clamps as shown below.
