4-5.1. Health and Safety

Reagents that are used to calibrate and check this instrument may be hazardous to your health and
require special handling. Exercise caution and avoid inhalation, skin contact, eye contact, and
ingestion
. Take a moment to review health, safety, and disposal information about YSI reagents
from the YSI website. MSDS documents may be viewed and downloaded at
www.ysi.com/environmental.

4-5.2. Materials Required

• calibration/storage cup, provided with the sonde

• calibration reagents

• clean, absorbent paper towels, lens cleaning tissue, or cotton cloths

• ring stand and clamp (clamp provided with the sonde)

• tool kit

4-5.3. Calibration Tips

• Prior to beginning calibration, attach the provided chain clamp to the sonde. Users may

find it easiest to make this attachment by laying the sonde on its side on a flat surface,
placing the clamp on the top of the sonde and extending the chain beneath the sonde prior
to attaching it to the tightening peg. The chain and clamp should be in the groove on the
sonde body which is near the sensor compartment. Before making the attachment, make
certain that the tightening nut is backed off as far as possible to facilitate the snugging up
of the clamp to the sonde. Rotate the tightening nut clockwise by hand until snug. Then
attach the clamp-sonde assembly to a sturdy ring stand as shown below.
