Yes. The standard compass that is present in each ADV6600 will automatically compensate for
rotary movement of the buoy, or of the sonde that is attached to the buoy by a rope or cable.
However, the same precautions mentioned above regarding averaging and abrupt movements apply.
Further, the buoy needs to be made of non-ferrous material, or the ADV6600 needs to be positioned
beyond the influence of the magnetic disturbance. YSI has a custom designed clamp available for
attaching the sonde to cables that extend below the buoy.

D-5. Collecting and Analyzing Data

What is the fastest rate at which I can collect data from the system?

The lowest possible sample interval for the ADV6600 is one minute. As such, the most rapid data
display frequency is once per minute. The sampling interval may be decreased in the future such
that the system can record data more rapidly than once per minute.

Can I combine my ADV6600 with a data collection platform (DCP) that is using telemetry so
that I can view my data without visiting the site? If so, how do I set up the system?

It is easy to establish communication between the ADV6600 and a data collection platform using
the standard SDI-12 or RS232 protocols that are built into the ADV6600. If you are interested in
seamless setup of the interface, you might consider the purchase of a YSI 6200 DCP. However, if
you already have DCPs from well-established manufacturers, you should have no problems
interfacing them to an ADV6600.

If you are using SDI-12 protocol, the ADVantage 6600 software can be used to configure and set up
the system prior to deployment. Before connecting the cable from the ADV6600 to the DCP, change
the switch at the end of the field cable to the SDI-12 position. Don’t forget to move the switch back
to the RS232 position before connecting the ADV6600 to your computer.

After starting a logging study, can I download the data to my PC in the field without stopping
the study?

No. Unlike YSI 6-series products, the ADV6600 firmware automatically stops a logging study when
interaction is established via a computer running the ADVantage 6600 program.. This means that if
data is uploaded from an instrument in the field, the user must restart another study before
redeployment of the ADV6600.
