Features

In Release 4.0 and later systems, forwarding features are useful for covering calls
regularly, rather than only temporarily. Forward, Follow Me, and Remote Call
Forward can be set up to ring first at the forwarding extension before they are sent
to the forwarded-to extension. If a call is not answered at the forwarding extension
(or if, in Release 4.1 and later systems, the sender’s SA or ICOM lines are busy),
it then rings at the extension to which forwarding has been programmed. The
system manager programs a forwarding delay so that a calls rings from zero to
nine times before being forwarded. Other features, such as Ringing Options, as
well as line/trunk availability, affect the number of rings. For additional information
about using this feature for covering calls, see

“Direct Voice Mail” on page 4–40

.

When people use this feature often, they can program a button for it.

The next topic provides information about using the Authorization Codes feature
to control forwarding features at your extension.

Centrex Transfer via Remote Call Forwarding

4

In Release 6.0 and later systems, Centrex Transfer via Remote Call Forwarding
can be used in any mode of operation to send outside calls to a remote telephone
number. For example, the feature is useful when a person is working either from
home or from a Centrex extension that is not connected to the MERLIN LEGEND
Communications System. The forwarded outside calls come from outside the
communications system, but they may come from extensions that are in the same
Centrex system as the person receiving the call. The forwarding call to the outside
number is made on the same line/trunk on which the call arrived, conserving
Centrex lines.

The outside call may arrive directly or be transferred without consultation from
another user or an automated attendant. The following considerations apply:

Only outside Centrex calls are forwarded using this feature. Inside intercom
calls cannot be remote call-forwarded use this method. Use standard
Remote Call Forwarding instead.

To transfer calls outside the Centrex system, your organization must
subscribe to a Centrex trunk-to-trunk transfer feature.

Transfers with consultation and conferences cannot be performed to reach
extensions that have Centrex Transfer via Remote Call Forwarding active.

The Centrex lines, extensions programmed for Centrex Transfer via
Remote Call Forwarding, and any automated attendant that transfers calls
to the extension must be connected to the same switch. The feature is not
supported across private networks (Release 6.0 and later systems,
Hybrid/PBX mode only).

When extensions are using the Centrex Transfer via Remote Call Forwarding
feature, do not program Music On Hold for callers on hold or awaiting transfer.
