Basic Operations

NOTES:

When making a color duplicate, pressing the MODE + START COLOR
button makes a duplicate more quickly than pressing the START COLOR
button. However, it slightly increases the toner consumption.

When making a duplicate of a black and white document, press START
B/W
button to make a duplicate quickly. If you press START COLOR
button, you will still get a black and white duplicate, but the process will
take slightly longer.

Before the printer can print after being in the Power Saver Mode [“

Sleep

is displayed on the scanner LCD and “

Ready (Sleep)

” is displayed on the

printer LCD.], it needs to warm up to heat up the fuser.

When the scanner panel is left idle for 5 minutes, all menu settings will
automatically return to the Menu Default. (See “Menu Default” on

page 208

)

The printer panel functions and menus

The printer panel enables you to set options and view the status of the
printer and print jobs. This section provides information about:

Status messages and error messages

Main menus you can access from the printer panel

Printing printer information pages from the printer panel

For a detailed explanation of the activity lights and buttons on the printer

When the printer is printing normally, status information about current jobs
appears in the display window. The messages are:

Ready

—Displays while the printer is ready to print but not processing or

printing a job.

Printing

—Displays while a job is printing.

Processing

—Displays while the job is processing.

Canceling Job

—Appears when you cancel a print job.

Ready(Sleep)

—Appears when the printer is in an Power Saver mode.

This mode can reduce the total power consumption of the printer to less
than 35 watts. Full power mode is restored when the printer receives a job
or when you press the MENU/EXIT button or print a page at the printer.
