• The operations shown below change information pertaining to the Exchange Server on the Active
Directory, so if you perform any of these operations you will no longer be able to restore backup
data obtained before these operations (that is, you will no longer be able to use the
drmex-
grestore or EX_DRM_EXG_RESTORE command):
• Modification of the paths of the Information Store, log, and system files.
• Addition or deletion of storage groups.
• Modification of the storage group name.
• Addition of an Information Store to a storage group.
• Deletion of an Information Store from a storage group.
If you have performed any of the above operations, you will need to back up the Active Directory
and the Exchange database again. To perform a backup for the Active Directory, follow the in-
structions given in documentation provided by Microsoft.
• Performing any of the operations shown below changes the database name, and you will no
longer be able to restore and recover backup data obtained before these operations (that is, you
will no longer be able to use the
drmexgrestore or EX_DRM_EXG_RESTORE command with
the -recovery option specified):
• Repairing Information Store using the
ESEUTIL
utility (
ESEUTIL /p
).
• Defragmentation using the ESEUTIL utility ( ESEUTIL /d ).
If you have performed any of these operations, you will have to execute the drmexgbackup or
EX_DRM_EXG_BACKUP command, and then back up the Exchange database again.
• You can use a circular log only when using Exchange Server 2003 to perform a cold backup or
online backup. However, if you use a circular log, the oldest log among the existing log files is
deleted when a new log file is created. This means that some logs might disappear at roll-forward.
For this reason, when performing roll-forward recovery, do not use a circular log.
• The recovery storage groups for Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2007 cannot be
backed up. The files and folders that make up the recovery storage group must be placed on a
different file system from the storage groups to be backed up.
• The recovery database for Exchange Server 2010 and Exchange Server 2013 cannot be backed
up. The files and folders that make up the recovery database must be placed on a different phys-
ical volume from that of the database to be backed up.
• When using Fast Snap or Snapshot, you cannot perform a back up to tape by using Application
Agent. Therefore, use another backup product to make a tape backup of an Exchange database
that is on the primary volume.
• When using Exchange Server 2003, you can use cold backup and online backup. When using
Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2010, or Exchange Server 2013, you can use only
VSS backup.
• Of the high-availability functions in Exchange Server 2007, only SCC, CCR, and SCR are suppor-
ted. LCR is not supported.
Using VSS
This section describes requirements and precautions used when VSS is used to back up an Exchange
database.
• P9000 RMXP Shadow Copy Provider must be installed in advance, on both the database server
and the backup server. If P9000 RMXP Shadow Copy Provider has not been installed on those
servers when Application Agent is installed, P9000 RMXP Shadow Copy Provider will be installed
together with Application Agent.
