Controlling Xplay devices using automation protocols

Configuring Xplay to use Xprotocol over TCP/IP

The Vertigo Xprotocol is a TCP protocol that allows external communication with Xplay. The
packets are composed of a 24 byte TCP packet header followed by the Xprotocol
command.

An external program may connect to Xplay and control Xplay through Xprotocol commands.
The listening port and Xprotocol server must be configured in Xplay’s X

window. The external control must successfully open a socket connection

to the IP address of the Xplay system at the configured port. An Xprotocol connection can
control one device in Xplay. Control of multiple devices via Xprotocol requires multiple
Xprotocol connections, one for each device. A device connection is necessary in order to
be able to both configure and connect to an Xprotocol server in Xplay.

To configure Xplay to use Xprotocol over TCP/IP to control Xplay devices:
1.

Open Xplay’s D

and verify that the devices and device keyers that

Xprotocol will control are properly configured and assigned (see

“Adding and

connecting Xplay to playout devices” on page 2-8

).

2.

Verify that Xplay’s A

settings and the renderer’s Automation settings are

appropriate for automation control (see

“Specifying Automation settings in Xplay” on

page 5-3

).

3.

Open Xplay’s A
