(EAS)

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a federal United States of America notification system
used by government-approved entities to broadcast important warnings to the entire nation. The
television industry is required to respond to such notifications by suspending its programming
and displaying the incoming messages, optionally broadcasting EAS-supplied audio as well.
EAS broadcasts are received via a receiving device, of which several versions are offered by
various vendors in the United States.

Emergency Alert System (EAS) is supported within the Vertigo Suite through Xplay, which adds
support for cueing/taking and event-sending to a specific template on incoming broadcast from
TFT Incorporated’s EAS 911 receivers.

More specifically, upon acquiring an incoming broadcast from a receiver, Xplay cues and takes
a specified template on a specified device and keyer. Then as the broadcast is played, Xplay
raises events at the template level, and the template executes the required actions.

The following list identifies the EAS events (in chronological order) that Xplay may potentially
raise during an EAS broadcast:

EAS_INCOMING()

-- The start of an EAS warning.

EAS_TRANSLATED_HEADER(eas_originator_code, eas_event_code,

eas_county_location_code, eas_alert_duration, eas_datetime,

eas_id)

-- The text components of the warning. Please refer to the SAME header

definition for further details (

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_Area_Message_Encoding

).

EAS_AUDIOHDRATTSIGNAL_BEGIN()

-- The audio attention signal begins

broadcasting from receiver.

EAS_AUDIOHDRATTSIGNAL_END()

-- The audio attention signal is finished.

EAS_ALERTVOICEAUDIOEOM_BEGIN()

-- The voice message and the end of

message audio begins broadcasting.

EAS_ALERTVOICEAUDIOEOM_END()

-- The voice message and the end of message

audio are finished.

While Xplay only supports connectivity with a single receiver at a time; EAS support does include
device forwarding, which allows the EAS receiver to target more than one device with a single
warning broadcast.
