Annotations
General Best Practices
•
Avoid annotations in the lower-third of the video. The advertisement
overlay can obscure annotations placed there.
•
Be careful not to obstruct the actual content.
•
Use your best judgment to determine timing, placement, style, and
how many annotations you should include in your episodes. Don’t
bombard the viewer as it will feel ‘spammy’ and will have an adverse
effect.
•
Make sure to write and place text so it looks nice and reads well on
the screen.
•
Avoid prompting the viewer or having them click away from the
video too early in the video. Depending on what the annotation is
being used for or the action you want the viewer to take, there is a
proper placement and timing. Consider using the “Open in a new
window’ option for annotations that are hyperlinked, so the viewer is
not taken away from their current video.
Example ‘End Card’ - Spotlight annotations make graphic clickable.
