Monitoring

The communication module provides several monitoring functions for the "Managing Node" and

"Controlled Node" operating modes. The standard settings can be changed in the »Engineer« under

the Monitoring tab.
For the settings, monitoring responses and monitoring thresholds can be specified. When the

monitoring thresholds are exceeded, the response of the Servo Drive 9400 is specified together with

the POWERLINK-specific monitoring response. The required status is adopted which is additionally

entered into the logbook of the Servo Drive 9400. The setting ’No response’ deactivates the

monitoring function.

Weighted process
The monitoring threshold, for instance, serves to define the number of errors which may occur in

succession. Here, the POWERLINK uses a weighted process which must be considered when the

monitoring threshold is entered:

• As soon as an error occurs, an internal error counter is increased by the value "8".
• As soon as a POWERLINK cycle was successful, the error counter is reduced by the value ’1’.
• Thus 8 faultless transmissions are required after an error has been detected, in order that the

error counter assumes the value "0" again.

Note!

Generally, all set monitoring functions must be reset after they occurred and before they

can be transmitted again since they affect the fieldbus behaviour and the behaviour of

the communication module.
