Configure Design (Local) Communication

The local tab in Communication Setup reflects the view of the topology from the RSLinx Enterprise server on
the development computer. In this example, the development computer is configured to communicate with an
L63 ControlLogix controller via Ethernet.

Follow these steps to setup the Design Time path.

1.

Expand your system’s Ethernet
network.

2.

Expand your system’s Ethernet
module.

3.

Expand your controller bus or
backplane.

4.

Select your system’s controller.

In this example, the controller is a ControlLogix 1769-L63 controller.

5.

Click Add.

A new device shortcut appears.

6.

Name the shortcut.

For this example, the shortcut is named CLX.

7.

Select the new device shortcut and
the controller.

For this example, CLX shortcut
and 1756-L63 controller is
selected.

8.

Click Apply.

A verification dialog box appears
showing that the shortcut was
assigned to the design path.

9.

Close the verification dialog box.

The Apply button dims indicating the shortcut is attached to the path.
