Using IzoT Commissioning Tool as a Passive

Configuration Tool

You can use IzoT Commissioning Tool as a passive configuration tool. A passive configuration tool is
a tool that that configures the application in a device without affecting its network configuration. A
passive configuration tool is required when a network tool not based on OpenLNS is being used to
manage the configuration of a network. This mode is useful when you need to use a plug-in in passive
mode to configure a device on a network managed with a network tool not based on OpenLNS. To use
IzoT Commissioning Tool and one or more plug-ins as a passive configuration tool, follow these steps:

1. Attach IzoT Commissioning Tool to the network. If you do not already have an IzoT

Commissioning Tool network for the network, recover the network as described in Restoring an
IzoT Commissioning Tool Network
.
In the final steps of the procedure, do not synchronize the
network to the database, and leave the management mode OffNet.

If you synchronize or change the management mode to OnNet, IzoT Commissioning Tool will
become an active management tool and will no longer be passive. Skip to step 3.

2. If you have an IzoT Commissioning Tool network design for the network, open it. Set the

management mode to OffNet. To do this, click Add-ins, point to LonWorks Network, and then
click Network Properties. Click the Network Interface tab, select OffNet under the
Management Mode box, and then click OK. If you set the management mode to OnNet, IzoT
Commissioning Tool will become an active management tool and will no longer be passive.

3. To configure a device with a manufacturer’s plug-in that supports passive configuration,

right-click the device or a functional block on the device and then click Configure on the shortcut
menu. The plug-in starts.

4. Configure the device using the manufacturer’s plug-in.

5. Right-click the device, point to Commissioning, and then click Propagate CP Values to Device

on the shortcut menu.

Backing up an IzoT Commissioning Tool Network Design

You can back up an IzoT Commissioning Tool network design to an IzoT Commissioning Tool
backup file to protect against accidental file corruption or hardware failure, copy an IzoT
Commissioning Tool network design from one computer to another, or replicate an IzoT
Commissioning Tool network design in a new installation. You can also use an IzoT Commissioning
Tool backup file to archive an IzoT Commissioning Tool network design at a site without an OpenLNS
Server or to archive multiple network configurations so a previous configuration can quickly be
restored, if necessary.

An IzoT Commissioning Tool backup file may contain the following components:

• OpenLNS CT drawing
• OpenLNS network database
• NodeBuilder project (only if you are using the NodeBuilder tool)
• Device interface (XIF) files in the Import folder
• Resource files in the Types folder

• All files in the OpenLNS CT drawing directory. Backing up files in the OpenLNS CT drawing

directory provides an easy way to back up and copy files associated with an IzoT Commissioning
Tool network design such as HMI application files or schedule design files.
