5. I/O Signal Control and Signal Functions

5.3 Details of I/O Signal Functions

An input time constant is provided for the input signals of this controller, in order to prevent malfunction due to
chattering, noise, etc.
Except for certain signals, switching of each input signal will be effected when the signal has been received
continuously for at least 6 msec. For example, when an input is switched from OFF to ON, the controller will only
recognize that the input signal is ON after 6 msec. The same applies to switching of input signals from ON to
OFF (Fig. 1).

5.3.1. Details of Each Input Signal

„ Operating mode (RMOD)

This controller is equipped with a mode selector switch on the front panel in order to prevent erroneous
operations and protect data due to duplicated operations.
Under normal circumstances, set the switch to the “AUTO” side at automatic operation with PLC via I/O signals
and to the “MANU" side at manual operation using a PC or the teaching pendant.
In this case, it is difficult to operate the switch if the controller is installed in the control panel. The switch thus
also allows switching from the PLC side taking convenience into consideration.
The controller recognizes the switch to be set to “AUTO” if this signal is turned OFF and “MANU” if the signal is
turned ON when the mode selector switch is set to the “AUTO” side.
If the mode selector switch is set to the “MANU” side, the controller recognizes the switch to be in the “MANU”
status regardless of the status of the signal.
Use the switch to set a selector switch on the device side, in applications requiring frequent switching between
automatic and manual operations.

„ Start (CSTR)

If the rise edge of this signal from OFF to ON is detected, the controller reads command position numbers by
binary code of 6 bits from PC1 to PC32 (8 bits from PC1 to PC128 in case of 256-point mode (256-point type)
and 9 bits from PC1 to PC256 in case of 512-point mode (512-point type)) and position works to the
corresponding target positions.
Before executing this command, the target position, speed and other operation data must be set in the position
table using a PC/teaching pendant.
If a start command is issued when home return operation has not been performed yet after the power was input
(the HEND output signal is OFF), the controller will automatically perform home return operation before
positioning to the target position.
