Installing Redundant Hardware

The standard switch configuration does not include is a redundant
controller or element (Figure 7-2).

To install the redundant modules:

1. Power off all of the switch power supplies.

2. Install the redundant controller into the slot to the left of the

primary controller. (Slot 1 in Figure 7-2).

* Note: Controllers and elements are keyed to ensure

that a controller is not inserted into an element
slot and vice-versa.

3. Install the redundant element in the slot to the left of the

sixth element. (Slot 0 in Figure 7-2).

4. Power on the switch power supplies and login.

5. Select Switch Fabric from the System > Configuration

group on the web agent window. The Switch Fabric Status
dialog box opens showing that both the redundant controller
and redundant Element are now available (Figure 7-3).
