Configuring DNS and
RADIUS Clients

Overview

The following information and procedures are provided in this
chapter and are common to both layer 2 and layer 3 module
configuration:

Configuring a Domain Name System (DNS) Client

Configuring a Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service
(RADIUS) Client

Configuring a Domain Name System (DNS)
Client

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed database of name
servers which supply name-to-address translations. The root name
servers at the top of the DNS database tree contain pointers to the
master name servers for each of the top-level domains. The master
name servers contain pointers to the individual name servers for
each of the subdomains within its top-level domain. The individual
name servers contain detailed address information for the local
hosts in the subdomain.

For minimum operation of DNS, you must enable DNS and specify
at least one name server IP address. You may specify a default
domain name suffix, but it is not required. If you do not specify a
domain name, you must enter a fully qualified host name, for
example: jerry.avaya.com. If the default domain name suffix was
already specified (for example: Avaya.com), you only have to enter
a simple host name (for example: jerry).

You can configure DNS using either the web agent or the CLI.
