Configuring SNMPv1 and SNMPv2

This example shows how to complete a basic SNMPv1/v2 configuration. The

commands enable read-only access from any host to all objects on the switch

using the community string

public

, and enable read-write access from any

host to all objects on the switch using the community string

private

.

This example also shows how to allow the switch to generate traps for all

features that produce traps. The traps are sent to the host with an IP address

of 192.168.3.65 using the community string

public

.

To configure the switch:

1 Configure the public community string.

console#configure

console(config)#snmp-server community public ro

2 Configure the private community string.

console(config)#snmp-server community private rw

3 Enable all traps and specify the IP address of the host where the traps

should be sent.

console(config)#snmp-server enable traps all

console(config)#snmp-server host 192.168.3.65

public

console(config)#exit

4 View the current SNMP configuration on the switch.

console#show snmp
