2.9.7.2

Outbound Fax SMTP

2.9.7.2.1

Mail Client

Verify the email was sent to the correct email address. Compare the SMTP fax
domain configured in SMTP Gateway Setup with the address on the sent mail.
Also verify the email is not still in the client’s Outbox.

2.9.7.2.2

Mail Server

Check the mail server’s queue to see if the mail is still there. If it is, verify that
the mail server is correctly configured to route mail to the fax server, and it can
connect. A good connectivity test is to, from the mail server, telnet to the fax
server’s port 25. If you connect and see the banner “

220 <fax.company.com>

Simple Mail Transfer service ready

”, then the mail server should be able to

connect, check the routing instead.

2.9.7.2.3

Fax Ser ver

It could be that the email is reaching the fax server but the notifications are not
able to be returned to the sender. Run a report on the fax server and check to
see if there are any sent faxes. If so, see

2.9.7.3 Inbound Fax SMTP

to

troubleshoot confirmation email delivery.

2.9.7.3

Inbound Fax SMTP

2.9.7.3.1

Fax Ser ver

First, check the fax server’s Inbox (received queue) using the Administration
program. If the fax is there, verify that the correct DID digits are present to route
the fax, and that the user it is routed to has the correct email address as its
Routing Address. If the fax has been routed to the SMTPPost user but is still in
the Inbox, then the email gateway isn’t running. If the fax has a CSID of
“SMTPPOST”, then the mail server bounced it. Double-click on the fax in
Administration and read the

MESSAGE.TXT

file, it will contain the bounce

message from the mail server.

Run a report on the fax server and verify the fax was received and routed to
SMTPPost correctly.

2.9.7.3.2

SMTP Logs

In Administration, go to View ► Activity Logs. Change the Source to SMTPPost
and click Start Output. Here you will see any messages the mail server rejected.
If you see a message “

SMTP server accepted message

,” then the mail server

has accepted it for delivery and the fax is no longer on the fax server.

2.9.7.3.3

Mail Server

Once the mail server has accepted the message, check the mail server’s logs,
spam filter, and delivery queue.
