Email Integration

Licensing: This feature requires the

EmailGateway

feature (either

NATIVE

or

SMTP

). To deliver inbound faxes as PDFs rather than TIFFs requires the

PDFConverter

feature.

Email integration allows users to send and receive faxes using email. Received
faxes may be received as emails with the fax image attached as either a TIFF
(default) or PDF (requires license). Faxes may be sent by sending an email with
the fax image attached to a special email address that is routed to the fax
server.

2.9.1

POP3 Gateway

The POP3 Gateway is typically used when you have an off-site mail server or a
mail server hosted by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). The POP3 gateway
functions much like a desktop mail program like Outlook, it downloads email
from a single mailbox using POP3, and responds to them using SMTP. The
mailbox used for the POP3 gateway must be dedicated for the gateway’s use
only, since it will download and process all mail found there.

The POP3 Gateway is an additional component that is installed on the same
machine as the NET SatisFAXtion fax server software. It is not installed by
default, see

2.9.1.4 Installing the POP3 Gateway

.

Ports: The POP3 Gateway requires local ports 10000 and 10001. If these are
already in use by other software (such as Symantec BackupExec) they can be
changed using the

local_port

registry value in

4.2.1.21 POP3Post

and

4.2.1.25 SMTPPost

.

2.9.1.1

How the POP3 Gateway Operates

Outbound: The gateway periodically checks its mailbox on the mail server for
new emails using POP3. It then downloads them and sends them to the fax
server to be faxed. When the faxes complete, the gateway sends a notification
email back to the sender using SMTP.

Inbound: When a fax is received and routed to email, the gateway emails it to
the recipient using SMTP.
