Rate Pacing Mode – The Rate Pacing Mode will always try to achieve the WAN Rate. It

should be used when bandwidth path for accelerated TCP traffic remains constant with
the set WAN Transmission Rate. In Rate Pacing Mode, the turboIP-G2 meters out bursty
traffic at a rate not to exceed the configured transmission rate of the satellite channel.
This prevents the satellite channel from becoming congested and will maximize
accelerated TCP throughput to match the set WAN Transmission Rate.

Error Tolerance Mode – The Error Tolerance Mode is similar to Per-Connection Mode,

with the exception that the TCP windows will not be reduced unless loss is more than
1/12 of the windows. Also Error Tolerance Mode supports ECN (Explicit Congestion
Notification) if both TurboIP supports this feature. ECN is an end to end notification of
network congestion without dropping packets.

Error Tolerance Mode should be used to support dynamic bandwidth paths, where the
bandwidth may be different for any of the paths being accelerated by the turboIP-G2.
This mode only should be used if ECN is enabled on the bottleneck link.
