17.3. Thread one of the hex lock screws into the trans-

mission housing, just above the right corner of
the front plate, using a 1/2” socket. See Figure
17.3.

17.4. Thread one of the hex lock screws into the front

cover, at the threaded bore, using 1/2” socket.

17.5. Pry the front cover from the transmission hous-

ing using the hex lock screw in the transmission
housing as a pivot point, and the hex lock screw
in the front cover as a lifting point using a pry
bar.

17.6. Remove the front cover and four wheel drive

shaft assembly with the internal components of
the overrunning clutch. See Figure 17.6.

NOTE: Apply sealant to the front cover’s mating
face during assembly.

17.7. Visually inspect the internal components of the

overrunning clutch for damage or wear.

NOTE: Refer to the Four Wheel Drive Assembly
Inspection section for detailed procedures.

17.8. Remove the hex lock screws that were used for

prying the front cover off using a 1/2” socket.

17.9. Remove the LO: 59T; HI 50T drive gear assem-

bly from the 16T pinion shaft. See Figure 17.9.

17.10. Visually inspect the external component of the

overrunning clutch and large ball bearing for
damage or wear. See Figure 17.10.
