7.35. Clamp the splines of the pinion gear shaft into
the soft-jaws of a vice.
See Figure 7.35.
7.36. Loosen the stake nut using an 11/4” wrench.
7.37. Remove the stake nut.
NOTE: It is recommended to replace the stake
nut during assembly.
7.38. Tap the pinion gear shaft assembly down into
the right axle housing using a brass punch.
See Figure 7.38.
NOTE: The outer collar will be removed with the
pinion gear shaft.
7.39. Remove the oil seal from the right axle housing,
at the pinion shaft bore, using a flat-blade screw-
driver. See Figure 7.39.
7.40. Remove the tapered roller bearing from the pin-
ion gear shaft bore. See Figure 7.40.
