7.53. Remove the left differential gear.

See Figure 7.53.

7.54. Remove the differential assembly from the right

axle assembly. See Figure 7.54.

7.55. Remove all six hex cap screws securing the ring

gear to the differential housing.

7.56. Inspect the bolts for any sign of stretch or strip-

ing. Optional: replace the bolts any time they
are removed.

7.57. Remove the ring gear. See Figure 7.57.

7.58. Inspect the ring gear for wear or damage.

• Inspect the contact surface on the teeth.

• Inspect the threads in the holes for the mount-

ing bolts.

• If lock washers or locking tabs are present,

replace them with new ones on assembly.

NOTE: Damage to one gear will usually result in
damage to any gears that mesh with it. If either
the ring or the pinion gear is replaced, its’ mate
should be replaced as well.

7.59. Rotate the right differential gear 180° until it can

be removed through the left axle bearing bore.
See Figure 7.59.
