Starting a seam

1. Turn hand wheel toward your direction until the needle

is in its highest position and lift the presser foot.

2. Place cloth under presser foot with the needle

approximately 1 /4” from edge of cloth. Align the fabric

edge with one of the enumerated seam markers on the

needle plate, or use the fabric guide "A" founded in the

accessories.

3. Lower the presser foot.

Guiding and supporting fabrics

Most fabrics need to be guided only in front of foot,

however some fabrics need to be supported as they are

sewn (illustration 2).

• For tricot knitting and other similar synthetic knits,

apply gentle tension by holding the fabric at the front
and back of presser foot as you sew. Do not pull fabric.

• For fine fabrics or fabrics with a lot of elasticity, such as

stretch knits (helanca) or Lycra, hold firmly both fabric

and threads at the front and back to start a seam.

Following this procedure, the stitch will not pucker.
