The SoftMotion drive interface

The Softmotion Drive Interface is a standardised interface which offers the programmer

the possibility of integrating the abstract image of a drive into the IEC program,

configuring it there, and addressing it. It automatically provides for the updating and

transmission of the data required for the control of the drive hardware. Like this drives

cannot only be easily replaced and IEC program reused, also the user is saved the

difficulties and trouble of the drive connection.
The Drive Interface works with the following components:

 The »PLC Designer« control configurator: Here the structure of the drives to be

operated is to be mapped and parameterised on the basis of a corresponding

configuration file. This structure is then made accessible to the application (IEC

program) by means of the Drive-Interface libraries via implicitly generated and

assigned (system) variables.

 The internal SM_DriveBasic.lib library provides IEC data structures and global variables

which represent the drives, axis groups, and BusInterfaces shown in the control

configurator.

 The drive element, i.e. the specific library <BusInterfaceName>Drive.lib (e.g.

LenzeCANdrive.lib) that is to be supplied by the manufacturer of the control system for

the drives and the bus system used offers special functions which are required for the

data exchange between the structures and the corresponding hardware (see chapter

[3.3]
