5 Using HPRA to Manage Server Operations

96

NOTE

If the message "ALERT PENDING" appears in the Main Menu, it means
that an event has occurred for which HP Remote Assistant has not yet sent a
notification because the modem is occupied by the remote connection.
However, the event will appear in the log of events. (See the section below
for more information on viewing the log.) If an administrator disconnects
without reading the log, HP Remote Assistant will immediately send a page
about the event.

The log provides the following information about server events:

Whether the event is newly logged (indicated by a * symbol)

Whether a page has been sent in response to the event (indicated by a # symbol)

A description of the event

The date and time the event occurred

The error code for the event

While a log is displayed, you can perform the following operations:

Redisplay the log to show any events that have occurred since the log window was
displayed

View the last screen displayed on the server upon an ASR (Automatic Server
Restart) event

Return to the Main Menu

NOTE

When the event log is displayed, HP Remote Assistant assumes that you are
reviewing all page-enabled events and immediately terminates any scheduled
pages. You may also see a message informing you that some server monitors
have been disabled and asking if you want to re-enable them. When an event
such as a high temperature reading occurs, HP Remote Assistant
automatically disables the monitor so that duplicate pages aren't sent and the
log isn't filled with duplicate event reports.

Viewing the Last Screen Saved Upon ASR

HP Remote Assistant automatically captures a snapshot of the server's display screen
upon an ASR event, allowing you to preserve and view any error messages that may
have appeared on the server screen before the restart. HP Remote Assistant also saves
the cursor position and video mode of the screen in the snapshot.
