Performing a Query

After you enter the appropriate information for the device, variable, and options, click
on Perform to execute the query. If a polling value other than zero was set, the table or
graph will be updated periodically.

When a table of data is displayed, you can use the buttons provided in the window to
poll the device, set a variable, copy selected cells to the clipboard, or save the displayed
data to a log file. For more information on table display options, see your HP
OpenView for Windows documentation.

Viewing HP Remote Assistant Alarms With
HP NSA

If you are running both HP OpenView for Windows and HP NetServer Assistant 2.1 or
later on your management station, installation of agent software for HP Remote
Assistant allows you to create and display trap agent alarms for servers in which the
HP Remote Assistant is installed.

NOTE

HP Remote Assistant supplies server SNMP agents for Novell NetWare and
Microsoft Windows NT servers only.

Before you can view alarms, you must first scan the network for the existence of
SNMP agents. When the agents are collected, HP NetServer Assistant creates an
OpenView submap of alarm icons that aid event management.

To create a submap of HP Remote Assistant subobjects under each compound file
server object, do the following:

1. Make sure that the appropriate HP Remote Assistant agent software (see the

previous chapter) is loaded onto the server in which HP Remote Assistant is
installed.

2. Select Layout from OpenView's Autodiscovery menu, and then select Create HP

NSA Objects.

HP NetServer Assistant searches the network servers for SNMP agents and
automatically installs alarm icons for HP Remote Assistant subobjects, including
temperature, voltage, bus utilization, and ASR events.
