6 Troubleshooting

2. Your paging service provider is not completely adhering to the alphanumeric

paging protocols. If this appears to be the case, call HP Technical Support.

3. It is also possible that you are not dialing the correct modem access number. Check

to see if the number you are dialing responds with typical modem handshaking
protocols. If not, call your pager service provider and double-check to be sure you
are dialing the correct modem access number (Terminal Number).

904 TAP: Parameter 3

Event code 904 occurs when a message is not accepted by the terminal.

1. Your message exceeds the length (number of characters per message) of the service

provider's limits. Make sure that your service provider supports a message length
of 80 characters.

2. Your Pager ID number is invalid. If you use multiple service providers, make sure

you have selected the correct service provider for the Pager ID or PIN number. See
"Getting Started" above.

3. Your service is currently not accepting messages. Try to send your message later.

4. Call your service provider and ask them to send you a test message. This can help

determine if the problem lies with your service provider, or if you are using an
invalid Pager ID number.

Remote Console

I cannot log into HP Remote Assistant from the remote console.

Use the Configuration Utility to configure the baud rate, the connection, and add an
administrator login name. If you have an on-board modem (Models D2968C and
D2969C) and are trying to connect via direct connect, press Ctrl-Break, then press
Enter several times to get the attention of the HP Remote Assistant EISA Board.

Are you entering the correct password? The login name and password are case
sensitive.

I am using an HP OmniBook with a direct serial connection to the server,
but am unable to get the login prompt.

The serial cable provided with the OmniBook is not a null modem cable. See the
section, "Configuring a Null Modem Cable," in Chapter 2 for information on
configuring a serial cable for HP Remote Assistant communications.
