6 Troubleshooting

122

The HP Remote Assistant EISA Board does not respond to the HP
Remote Assistant Configuration Utility.

Make sure that the HP Remote Assistant EISA Board is securely seated in an EISA
slot.

Check the LED on the back panel of the board. If it is not alternately flashing green
and yellow lights, something is wrong with the board, see Appendix H, "LED Codes,"
for more detail.

External Modem

The external modem is not responding to HP Remote Assistant.

Make sure you are using the proper cable to connect the HP Remote Assistant EISA
Board to the modem. For more information, see the section "Connecting through an
External Modem," in Chapter 2 of this document.

My external modem is not on the recommended list. Can I still use it?

You can attempt to use a modem that's not on the list, but there is no guarantee that it
will work with HP Remote Assistant. For more information on setting up
communications with an external modem, see the README.TXT file provided on the
HP Remote Assistant Server Diskette.

I already have an internal modem installed in my server. Can I use it with
HP Remote Assistant?

No. There is no way to configure an internal modem (other than the modem on-board
the HP Remote Assistant EISA Board) to work with HP Remote Assistant.

Paging

I generated a numerical Test Page from HP Remote Assistant
Configuration Utility, but never received it.

Verify that the EISA Configuration Utility has configured HP Remote Assistant for
server management use and not pass-through mode.
