6. Run Server Utilities

HP Remote Assistant automates the task of launching and running previously installed
DOS utilities from the remote console. This feature is especially useful for
administrators who need to perform diagnostics or a configuration from a remote
location.

When you choose Run Server Utilities from the Main Menu, HP Remote Assistant
displays a menu of utility launch options.

1. Diagnostic Assistant
2. EISA Configuration Utility
3. Server BIOS Update
4. HP Remote Assistant Configuration Utility

NOTE

If a Utility Partition is installed on the server, HP Remote Assistant instructs
you to run the server utilities from there via Console Redirection, and
prompts you to reboot the server and boot the Utility Partition.

NOTE

For utility launch to work properly, the server must be in DOS mode and the
launcher batch file, HPRALNCH.BAT, must reside in the current directory
or in the DOS path. The DOS utilities are installed on the server with the
Installer program provided on the HP Remote Assistant Server Diskette. For
more information on installation of server software, see Chapter 3.

To launch a utility, type the corresponding option number and press Enter. HP Remote
Assistant automatically starts console redirection and launches the selected utility.

Diagnostics

The HP Diagnostic Assistant provides a comprehensive set of utilities and
troubleshooting tools to help verify that the HP NetServer is functioning properly.
This utility quickly addresses most common real-world hardware problems so that you
can be assured that system components are operational, that SCSI expansion boards
are properly seated and that cables are well connected.

NOTE

The following launch steps only apply if you are managing a system without
an already installed Utility Partition.
