Electrical System
Before troubleshooting any
electrical circuit, ALWAYS
begin by checking the
following:
1. Fuses.
2. All connections relating to
circuit are clean and tight.
3. All grounding straps are
intact and securely
fastened, refer to Section
9.1.12, “General Overview
(Vehicle Ground Strap
Locations).”

Repair/replace sensor
harness.
Not

Dash panel charge
indicator ON continuously.
Replace alternator.
At vehicle sensor harness
connector, at pin J, wire
[AD1] (RED), check
for battery voltage.
On alternator, check wires
[AG1] (BLK) and [AG2] (BLK)
to ground.
Not

Replace dash panel.
On alternator, at terminal “B+”,
check wires [AB1] (RED) and
[AB2] (RED) for voltage output
of 14.5 VDC.
On alternator, at terminal
“D+”, check wire [AD1] (RED)
for battery voltage.
At dash panel
connector, at pin 2, wire
[D13] (YEL), check
for battery voltage.
If OK
If OK

Replace fan drive belt.
Not
OK
If OK
Check fan drive belt. Refer to
Section 7, “Engine: Cummins
4BT 3.9, B4.5T and QSB
4.5T.”
Repair/replace open cab
harness.
Replace alternator.
