CHOKE CABLE
ADJUSTMENT

Remove air filter.

Early Models

Pull choke knob out
and then push knob in.

LOOK: Choke plate
must be completely
closed, then completely
open.

If necessary, loosen screw (A) and push choke
knob all the way in.

Pull on choke lever to completely open choke
plate. Tighten screw (A).

Check for completely open and completely
closed positions.

Later Models

Pull choke knob out
and then push knob in.

LOOK: Choke plate

If necessary, loosen screw (B) and push choke
knob all the way in.

Push choke cable to completely open choke
plate. Tighten screw (B).

Check for completely open and completely
closed positions.

IDLE MIXTURE AND SPEED ADJUSTMENT

IMPORTANT: Forcing the idle mixture screw
tight will damage the needle and seat.

NOTE: On later P218G (316 and 318) and
P220G (420) engines; A “limiter cap” is installed
over the idle mixture screw. The screw should
only need to be adjusted within these limits. If
screw is being replaced, pry off “cap” and
remove screw. Turn the new idle mixture screw
clockwise until lightly seated, then
counterclockwise 1-1/4 turns. Install “cap” with
tab up and centered between stops on
carburetor.

Turn idle mixture screw
clockwise until lightly
seated, then
counterclockwise 1-1/4
turns.

Start and run engine to
bring it to NORMAL
OPERATING
TEMPERATURE. Move
throttle lever to slow
idle position.
