The Radar Context Menu

Context menus and their sub-menus change depending on what window pane or
Nav Object is currently active. When the Radar window pane is active, the Context
Menu contains options for the Radar window pane.
To open the Radar Context Menu click on the Radar window pane with your mouse,
and select the Context Menu button, or click on the Radar window pane; then click
your right mouse button.

Range

Range Up and Down controls are designed to give you the ability to range out or in
to a given level. Depending on your radar type, these ranges may vary slightly.
Select Auto or Manual Range tuning.

Auto Range

This feature automatically adjusts the radar range to match the range of the chart
zoom. This keeps the overlaid radar image consistently scaled and sized with the
Chart window pane and helps maintain a cleaner image. When enabled, a change
in radar range or chart zoom level changes the other window accordingly.

Manual Range

Radar window pane settings default to auto range mode. However, in order to get
the best possible image, it may occasionjally be necessary to adjust the range
preset. Once set, you should not need to adjust the range preset unless the image
quality deteriorates. Generally, you should adjust the presets on average once a
year to make sure you have the highest quality image.
To adjust the Range preset manually:

Click on the Radar window pane and select Context Menu | Range.
Make sure the Manual Range radio button is selected.
Adjust the Range control down until you see the image start to deteriorate. Take
note of the setting value.
Adjust the Range control up past the point where the image looks good until the
image starts to deteriorate. Take note of the setting value.
Select the controls at a point between the two extreme settings, where the
quality of the image is at its best.

NOTE:

Make sure that the Keep Range Setting option in the Tools/Settings |

Options | Radar tab is set to Yes.

Tuning

Adjusting the Gain

Use the Gain Up and Gain Down controls or slider bar to adjust the sensitivity of the
radar. A higher gain value makes the radar more sensitive to radar returns, allowing
it to display weaker targets. However, if the gain is set too high, the image might get
overly cluttered with background noise and even strong returns could be hidden or
masked. Conversely, a lower gain could cause weak echoes to be missed.
To adjust the Gain preset:

Click on the Radar window pane and select Context Menu | Tuning.
Adjust the Gain control down if the image looks too strong, or up if the image
looks too faint.
