5 - Chart Management

The Chart Context Menu

Context menus and their sub-menus change depending on what window pane or
Nav Object is currently active. For example, when the Chart window pane is active,
the Context Menu will open with options for the Chart window pane.
To open the Chart Context Menu click on the Chart window pane with your mouse,
and select the Context Menu button, or click on the Chart window pane; then click
the right button on your mouse.

Nav Objects

You can place any number of icons or navigation objects on the chart at your
discretion. These objects include marks, waypoints, routes, boundaries, and chart
annotations. Each object has specific characteristics, called Object Properties,
that provide information about that object. Object properties can be viewed in
the Properties panel of the SysInfo window pane or in the Data Manager. These
properties include the object name, Lat/Lon location, and much more.

GPS Mark. Clicking this button immediately places a Mark on the Chart window
pane directly under the boat’s current position based on GPS location.

5

or the

Instant Mark button on the Workboat Navigator Main Toolbar also performs this
function.
Add Annotation. Chart annotations are an on-screen notation created and
edited by the user. Typically, annotations contain location-specific information
added by the user to mark a specific event, navigation feature, or other data
significant for piloting the lat/lon where the annotation is located.
Add Mark. A Mark is a user-created latitude and longitude coordinate on the
chart that is independent of a Route. If a Mark is included in a Route, the Mark
will remain on the chart even if the Route is deleted. Mark properties will display
in the SysInfo window pane, Properties panel.
Add Route. A Route is a collection of Waypoints or Marks. Waypoints in a Route
are numbered sequentially in the order they are created. A route consists of at
least 2 waypoints or marks. Clicking Add Route switches the mouse cursor into
“Waypoint Creation” mode. Click

L

or right-click to exit Waypoint Creation

mode.
Add Line Boundary. A line boundary is an irregularly-shaped open or closed
boundary line. Clicking Add Line Boundary switches the mouse cursor into
“Line Boundary Creation” mode. Click

L

or right-click to exit Line Boundary

Creation mode. When a line boundary is closed, it can be filled to make it easier
to spot on the Chart window pane. To create a closed boundary, click on the
first Waypoint in the Line Boundary at the end of boundary creation. You will be
prompted to confirm whether you intend to create a Closed Boundary.
Add Circle Boundary. Isolate and encircle a hazard or other area you wish to
avoid on the chart. Circle boundaries can be placed to completely surround any
navigational hazard. Boundary circles can also be used as anchor alarms.

NOTE:

Boundaries mark an area that you want to avoid. You can set up

Jeppesen Workboat Navigator to sound an alarm whenever the boat or its
predictor line crosses over an established boundary.
