13 - Target Tracking

Targets Panel

Use the Targets panel on the SysInfo window pane to view additional information
about a specific tracked AIS or ARPA/MARPA target.

Managing Target Appearance

Open System Menu | Tools/Settings | Options | Targets tab.
Under the first section, you can select ARPA Targets Based on Magnetic and
Display External Targets on Radar.
Select the Display Predictors check box to show an extension line from the
target to its projected trajectory. Adjust the prediction time as needed, keep in
mind that a long prediction time may be misleading, as a target can change
course.
Select the Display Wakes check box to see how a target has changed course
over time. Adjust the wake time, as needed.
There are three buttons on the Targets tab you can use to make additional
selections:

Target Threat Settings... - Click this button to determine if you want to
detect potential threats based on information received from ARPA and AIS
targets. If a target meets criteria for these settings, the target becomes red
and a warning message appears. The criteria options are listed below:

Detect Threats. Select to detect threats.
Audible Alarm When Threat Detected. Select to use an audio alarm
when threat criteria is met.
CPA. Select a value in nautical mile or feet for the closest point of
approach.
TCPA. Enter a value in seconds for the time until closest point of
approach.

Target Label Settings... - This window gives you the ability to tailor the
contents of the targets labels on the chart screen. You can choose to contain
any or all of the following: Target Name, Speed Over Ground (SOG), Closest
Point of Approach (CPA), Time to Closes Point of Approach (TCPA), Time to
Passing Point (TPP), and Passing Plan (Plan). You can also determine the
size of the font by selecting it in the Label Font Size drop-down menu.
AIS Target Settings... - Use this window to filter AIS targets on the chart
view if they meet the selected criteria for range and speed over ground. You
can enter the values for range and speed. You can turn the filter on and off
using the check box in the Targets panel.

Click OK to complete these changes.

WARNING:

Occasionally measurement data transmitted from the AIS device can

lose precision when converting from statue measurement to metric.
