SHARK™ IAD User’s Guide

primary-address

set primary-address ip_address
Specifies the IP address of the primary DNS name server.

secondary-address

set secondary-address ip_address
Specifies the IP address of the secondary DNS name server. Enter 0.0.0.0 if
your network does not have a secondary DNS name server.

DHCP S

ETTINGS

As a Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) server, your SHARK™ IAD can
assign IP addresses and provide configuration information to other devices on
your network dynamically. A device that acquires its IP address and other
TCP/IP configuration settings from the SHARK™ IAD can use the
information for a fixed period of time (called the DHCP lease). Enter the
DHCP node as shown:

(top)>> ROUTER
(ROUTER)>> dhcp

option

set option { off | server | relay-agent }
Enables or disables DHCP services in the SHARK™ IAD. You must enable
DHCP services before you can enter other DHCP settings for the SHARK™
IAD. If you turn off DHCP services and save the new configuration, the
SHARK™ IAD clears its DHCP settings.

option = off

With the option turned off all addresses must be manually (static addressing)
assigned. Once assigned the addresses will not change until they are
reassigned. The SHARK™ IAD will not pass DHCP services to a
downstream client nor will it respond to any DHCP requests.

option = server

With the option set to server the SHARK™ IAD will dynamically assign
addresses within an address range as defined per the following parameters.
These addresses are assigned for the duration defined in the lease-time
parameter. Each address is assigned as a workstation is attached to the
network and a DHCP address request is made. When the lease time for an
address has run out, a new address is assigned with the same lease time.

start-address

set start-address ip_address
Specifies the first address in the DHCP address range. The SHARK™ IAD
can reserve a sequence of up to 253 IP addresses within a subnet, beginning
with the specified address for dynamic assignment.

note:

If you use the SHARK™ IAD as a DHCP server, make sure that any devices
on your network that have statically assigned addresses do not use IP addresses
in the SHARK™ IAD DHCP address range. Network conflicts can result
when a device on your network uses an IP address that the SHARK™ IAD has
already assigned to another device. Also there can only be one DHCP server
on a network.
