MMEDIATE

TART
A type of trunk signaling for incoming and outgoing calls. This signaling indicates that the
originating trunk goes off hook, and maintains this condition for at least 150 milliseconds. Then
the originating trunk sends out digits.

NCOMING
A call that comes from the CO to a user on the XSP - 100.
INTERFACE
A connection between two devices or networks.
INTERNET ADDRESS
Also known as IP address. A 32-bit address used to route packets on a TCP/IP network. In the
dotted decimal notation, each eight bits of the 32-bit number are presented as a decimal number
with the four octets separated by periods.

Internet Protocol. The network-layer protocol in the TCP/IP protocol stack.
IP A
DDRESS
A 32-bit address (specified as x.y.z.w) which is assigned to every interface on the Internet. This
32-bit address is comprised of a network portion and a host portion.

NTERFACE
This describes an interface that does not consume a unique IP address.
IPCP
Internet Protocol Control Protocol. A network control protocol in PPP specifying how IP
communications will be configured and operated over a PPP link.
IPX
Internet Packet eXchange. Novell NetWare’s LAN communications protocol. The IPX protocol
is used to move data contained in encapsulated packets between server and/or workstation
programs running on different network nodes.
ISDN
Integrated Services Digital Network. A digital network with circuit and packet switching for
voice and data communications at data rates up to 1.544 or 2.048 Mbps. This switched digital
network goes from the local or long-distance exchange carrier to the subscriber. There are two
types of service BRI (Basic Rate Interface) and PRI (Primary Rate Interface). BRI transmits at
144kbps, PRI transmits at 1544 kbps. (See PRI)

(ISP)
The company that provides you acess to the Internet on a facility that uses IP.

LAN
Local Area Network. A short distance data communications network (typically within a building
or campus) used to link computers and peripheral devices (such as printers, CD-ROMs, modems)
under some form of standard control.
